Embrace ‘Raw’ Fear!
Fearlessness is not the absence of fear. It’s the mastery of fear. It’s about getting up one more time than we fall down.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.
I was very nervous when I did my last oral argument before the Supreme Court [before being nominated]. I think if you’re a lawyer appearing before the Supreme Court and you’re not nervous, you don’t understand what’s going on.
Fear is friend and foe alike. It is painful. Yet it inspires me. It energizes the senses … Fear confirms life. It is the painful affirmation of being alive. We shrink from its pain. At the same time, fear is energy. If you feel your fear, you can also feel its power, and you can change its power to your power.
Follow the Fear.
All of the magic happens outside of our comfort zone … When you are feeling fear, move towards it.
I’m concerned if I’m not nervous. I look forward to the butterflies in my stomach.
See that? This is the favorite thing that I have on this Earth. And Rocky Marciano gave me that. You know what it was? His cufflink. Huh? And now I’m givin’ it to you and it, it’s gotta be like a, like an angel on your shoulder see? If you ever get hurt and you feel that you’re goin’ down this little angel is gonna whisper in your ear. It’s gonna say, ‘Get up you son of a bitch ’cause Mickey loves you’. Okay?
Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.
